Nereus appoints Fernando Alvarez as Vice President of Sales Northern Europe

Nereus has appointed Fernando Alvarez, PhD, as Vice President of Sales Northern Europe. The appointment is part of the ongoing cooperation between Nereus and Z-Joule and gives the platform its first dedicated presence in the Scandinavian, North Sea and Baltic markets. Fernando is based in Oslo and brings eighteen years of applied expertise in maritime fuel and emissions compliance optimisation.

Why Northern Europe?

Operators in the region manage fuel as a procurement decision and as a compliance question at the same time. FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS, UK ETS and IMO CII are live constraints that shape vessel employment, charterer requirements and fleet investment decisions. Who is Fernando Alvarez?

Fernando holds a PhD in maritime transport optimisation from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and an MSc in Transportation Engineering from Cornell University. He led the techno-economic analysis behind the creation of SEA\LNG, co-founded BunkerMetric and served as its CTO, and founded Z-Joule, the maritime compliance optimisation platform covering FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS and CII. Earlier in his career he was a Senior Researcher at Det Norske Veritas.

Fernando leads the Nereus strategy across Northern Europe. He is the primary contact for fleet owners, ship managers and bunker buyers who want to apply the platform to their procurement and fuel management operations.
